NANA manga100 challenge!

As if I haven't already been making enough NANA-related icons...now I've gone and signed up at manga100 for the NANA manga to make 100 icons too. I figured this may cure my little (or large) obsessive need to make NANA icons even though NANA's too great to stop obsessing about. :D

Note: Due to a really hectic bump, I have given up on the challenge and this post will not longer be updated. So as of final count, there are 64 total icons + 9 variations of themes. All additional NANA icons I make will be updated as I normally do with my icon posts. (Yes, I'll still be making NANA icons!)

Update Note: I've updated the post to take out all the "coming soon" themes since I won't be making them anymore, hence the jump in numbers. Whatever themes I did, along with their corresponding numbers, I've kept for reference. I'm rather bummed that I wasn't able to work on this challenge more- but alas, it wasn't fair of me to hang on to this subject when others may want to claim it. But I'll have you know that I'm going to continue making NANA icons whenever I get the chance to! :D

Ahh, you must read NANA! ^_^ I'm so happy these icons made you want to pick it up...that's seriously the greatest compliment. :) NANA's been licensed already though they haven't released their first volume yet. You can, however, find scanslations in the meantime. There are links & info available at the yahoo group here or the NANA rocking horse forum here. ^^

And thank you for the comment on the manga coloring! ^_^ I haven't written tutorials in a while since I've been lacking enough time...but I'll be sure to keep this in mind! :D

Ahh, thank you! <3 I'm so glad you liked the silly one...the moment I saw the theme "silly", I thought of that picture and knew I had to use it. And I could not resist the glass one because it was such a significant moment in the manga. :D

They're really done the same way you would create an HTML table. If you have absolutely no idea at all how HTML tables are coded, here's a simple tutorial I wrote a long time ago on it. Hope that helps!

More gorgeous NANA icons! Yay! <3

I've snagged Beauty, Fly, Crimson, Glass, Smoke, Weapon and Warmth so far and I'll definitely be back for more. I think my favorites of these is a tie between Crimson, Smoke and Warmth. Hope you don't mind if I give a few comments about my reasons? :)

With Crimson, although the original variation is lovely, I like the slightly darker tone in the new version, and I think the font you've used for the characters on the right in the new one is more fitting as well. It seems more flowing and elegant to fit with the rather elegant image you've used.

And while I like both Warmth and Takumi, I think the reason I favor Warmth is because of the wonderful contrast between the image and the background that's created by the darker pink color you've used in this one. Smoke is just all around beautiful. :D

Ahhh, I know I've said this before but I'll say it again- I just love your insightful comments on my icons! Thank you so much for making the effort to tell me why you like which icons, etc. It gives me such a wonderful perspective on my own icons and it really helps me. <3

I'm so glad to hear that you like Warmth & Takumi though- I had figured that those would be most people's least favorites so I'm absolutely thrilled that you like them. :)

For this challenge, I signed up at manga100 but there are tons of other 100 icon challenges. You can look at my affiliates list at icons100 to get a list of other ones floating around. ^_^ Just go to any of the specific communities, read the rules, etc. They have instructions on how to apply for a challenge. :)

I've snagged the new Embrace, Innocence and Rose. And since you've said you like my comments (I'm glad they're helpful! *g*), here are a few more. :)

In the original variation of Embrace, I think the coloring seems a little unbalanced, and it throws off the whole icon a bit. However, the new variation is simply gorgeous. I love the image you've used, the coloring balances together perfectly, and the text/close-up are in a perfect position so that they work with the background image instead of detracting from it.

Innocence is just so cute and cheery! :) The light/pastel-like colors you've chosen really accentuate that feel of youth and innocence, and the very idea of adding flowers to her clothing as a means to add color to the icon is brilliant.

As for Rose, I'm not entirely sure why I like this one so much. I do know I love the expression on her face, as well as the coloring of the background. The way the outlining in the bottom half or so of the image is slightly tinted blue also has an interesting effect that works to pull the three separate parts of the icon (her, the background and the rose) together.

To sum up, thank you for more beautiful NANA icons! :D

I swear I'm beginning to sound like a broken record with my super love for your comments about the icons. T_T I definitely like them and they're definitely helpful!! *hearts* Rarely anyone ever take the time to give me detailed comments about why they like or don't like something...and I can't tell you how much I appreciate these! :)

Ah, I agree about your comments for Embrace. I'm half-tempted to make another icon of that picture but I'll see. ^^; I'm also really glad you like Innocence as that's an icon I felt a bit iffy about because of the colors. I was afraid I had thrown in too many pastels. >_>;

But wah, you noticed the blue tint for the Rose icon! I tried to work that in subtly so it means a lot that you thought it made a difference. ^_^ Once again, thank you for the wonderful compliments on my icons! *hugs*

Now that I finally have a chance to look at all the pretty icons closely I've saved some (okay, more like all than some ^^;). Out of the newest batch I love all three but Charm is really striking with Nana's pink shirt. I wouldn't have thought looking at the background colors the pink shade would go so well with the green, but it's really striking. 13 I'd like just in general because I love that scene, but I also love how you kep it mainly black and white. That's rather hard to carry off well I think and it looks just lovely.

Besides the new ones I think my favorite so far may be glass. I don't think I've ever seen anyone make an icon of the glasses before (and it's such an important scene). I love the coloring in that icon. ^^ Also, as an aside, I really like Expression, even though you don't (again this is probably because I like that scene alot).

Sorry I rambled ^^; I'm just adoring these icons. You're doing such a great job relating the scene/image to the themes. I can't wait to see more. Everytime I visit the post and see it's been updated not only do you have more pretty icons but I practically gasp out loud because I'm thrilled to see yet another of my favorite scenes captured in such lovely icons ^__^

Wow...*hugs you to death* ^^;; Thank you so much for the comments. I'm really happy to hear that someone was enjoying the way I've been playing with certain manga scenes for the themes! Whenever I look at the themes, I try to pick a scene that I think fits it nicely- so it's such a great thing to hear that you found them fitting. :) Which brings me to the Expression icon- the thing is I really like that scene but I keep feeling like I didn't do the icon justice- that's why I dislike the results. :p

Wahh, I'm also glad to hear you like the Melody one because when I saw it I just knew I had to icon Shin singing for Reira. That scene was really touching. *bubbles over NANA excitement* And thank you about the comments about the pink shirt for Charm. I actually took a while trying to pick a shade and eventually settled for that one. :)

I'm sick and half asleep, so I may add to my comment more tomorrow when I'm more with things, but I wanted to comment as soon as I saw the new icons, because they are fabulous ^^

First, I have to say, the text on Sexy is *so* perfect for Nana/Ren (I always go on about how addictive their personalities and relationship are - they are definately like a drug to each other). I also love that you used pink on it because I never would have thought to try pink with the coloring in that picture and it looks beautiful. I adore the new artist choice icons. The Junko (especially since almost no one makes Junko icons), Shin, Ren and Yasu ones are my favorites probably, I love the style of the whole bunch (the guy and girl ones) and again am loving the coloring (you're always so good with the coloring on your icons).

Hope you don't mind yet another ramble from me ^^; I saved all the new ones and as usual continue to look foward to your next update :)

Waahh, I'm so glad you liked the "my drug" text- because I also feel the same way about their relationship. The way they are with each other is just so "all-consuming" and I just had to put that down in the icon. And yay! You like the Junko one too- I couldn't leave her out because I like her character quite a bit. ^^ And thank you very much on the compliments about the coloring- that's a wonderful compliment for me because that's definitely one of the things I'm always fiddling with to no end. :p
